Accounting for 15% of the GDP of Mauritania, the national company of industries and mining is the biggest industry of the country. It is dedicated to research development and mining production which includes the treatment of iron-ore and its commercialization. The SNIM exports the majority of its production to foreign countries, particularly in Europe and in Japan.

The SNIM has built in the heart of the Sahara a great industrial complex that it does not stop developing by continuing research and diversification of projects (diamond, gold, basic metals and ornamental rocks) in order to increase its contribution to the economical development of the country.
